Hola, BigFans.
It's a special day--Halloween! Before we begin, here are some tips to keep your dog safe and ready to enjoy the day!
1. Don't Force Costumes. Although I'm not one of them, many dogs secretly despise their costumes. Please, humans, LISTEN TO YOUR DOGGIE!
2. Stress-Free Room. Make a 'peace room'. Turn on some soft music or talk radio, cover a cushion or couch with many cozy blankets and include a crate. Place a dish of water in the room, too. Give your dog a Kong or other puzzle toy with food inside. Close the door almost all the way, but not 100% shut in case the dog needs to get out for some reason. Make sure to check on your dog periodically. My family does this for me every year and it works like a charm! Better yet, after Halloween go to the pet store. They will likely have their Halloween toys on sale. Buy a few and put them away until next year's halloween. Put them in the Stress-Free Room for a happy little surprise!
3. Work Off the Stress. Take your dog on a very long walk and stop at a new place, such as a park or big field to play for a while and take the stress of your dog.
4. Safety Door. If your dog isn't very interested in the Stress-Free Room, make sure to put a baby gate in front of the door where you'll be welcoming trick-or-treaters to prevent spur of the moment escapes for the door.
5. Give 'Em a Break. Take your dog out of the Stress-Free Room every half-hour or so for a brisk walk or game of fetch,.
Have fun!
MY PART OF THE STORY:
So... Lili and a few of her friends are going trick-or-treating and I'm probably going to stay behind. I got really scared last year of all the decorations and people, so she said that it's best to stay at home with Mommy and Daddy. I'm excited to enjoy my stress-free room and many, many treats! Have a good time, guys!
